Joan Fraser, age 74, of Geneva, died Saturday October 27, 2012. She was born in Chicago, IL, on December 28, 1937, to Henry and Marie Kolek.

She earned her B.A. from Northwestern University in 1959 majoring in Political Science. She worked for 8 years as a Promotional Writer for the Montgomery Wards Catalog and Catalog Stores. In 1986 she became a major organizer and spokesperson for Fox River Woodlands Organization to keep the Kane County Forest Preserve from running a bike path behind her neighbor’s homes. The case went to the Illinois Supreme Court; and the bike path was successfully rerouted.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years Arthur, son Gregory A. Fraser, of Chicago, brother, Kenneth Kolek, of Claremont, CA, aunt, Jean Barborka, of Brookfield, IL, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents.
