George Raymond Charles, age 83, of St. Charles, died Monday at Delnor Community Hospital, Geneva. Born June 16, 1928 in Neosho, MO. He honorably served as a Marine in both WWII and the Korean War. He was employed in 1954 by the Great Western Railroad in Kansas City until a merger in 1968 with the Chicago Northwestern Railroad moving to St. Charles, Il., retiring as Treasurer in 1986. An active member of the Association of American Railroads serving as Chairman in the mid 80’s. His favorite getaway location was his beloved farm in Holliday, MO. After retiring he used his accounting knowledge as a volunteer Tax Consultant helping the elderly with their taxes. He is survived by his children, Sandra (Bernard) Joseph of Elburn, IL, Rebecca (Richard) Crimmins of Plano, TX and Richard (Lisa) Charles of Thornton, CO. Also his grandchildren, Kristina (Eric) Bauwens, Sean (Debi) Crimmins, Kelly (Humberto) Carrero, Daniel (Kore) Joseph, Amy Joseph and Nicole Charles. Seven great grandchildren, a sister, Louise (Dee) Miller of Rockland, California, many nieces and nephews, and loving friend Barb Anderson of St. Charles. He was preceded in death by his wife Louise, a son Michael Charles and daughter-in-law Linnea Charles. Also his sister Doneva Phillips. Brothers, Holmer, Buford and Eldon Charles all from Kansas City. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday at the Yurs Funeral Home 1771 W. State Street (Rte 38) Geneva. Rev. Chris Castaldo officiating. Burial will be at Union Cemetery St. Charles. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.
